HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A STYLIST? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR SALON?

We just recently founded the salon in January of 2013. We have different backgrounds - Andreas has a background in business economics; I, Dominique, am the stylist. I have been working as stylist for almost eight years.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ASPECT OF BEING A HAIR STYLIST?

What I love most about my job is that I have the ability to inspire people and to do a good thing for my clients. I want them to relax and to feel well cared for.



WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE SUSTAINABLE?
WHAT LED YOU TO BECOME A GREEN STYLIST?

The people coming to our salon are not only customers, they are our guests. We offer them refreshments such as soft drinks and coffee. And we offer mostly regional products. For example, our juice comes from a farm close by, as does our water.

We also invested in a highly energy-efficient washer, dryer and dishwasher, have a computer-controlled heating system and use LED lighting in order to save energy.

The table in the salon is made out of wood from the area, and we built it ourselves. The floor is made out of recycled vinyl.
Finally, we try to avoid waste everywhere possible, and we strictly recycle all of the waste we cannot avoid.


WHAT IS MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT BEING SUSTAINABLE?
IS THERE ANYTHING SURPRISINGLY EASY ABOUT IT?

The initial investment can be a little high (e.g., the price for energy-efficient washer and dryer), but in the end we will save money by saving energy

DO YOUR CUSTOMERS ASK ABOUT GREEN PRACTICES, PRODUCTS, ETC. AT YOUR SALON?
DO THEY EVER MAKE REQUESTS RELATED TO GREEN PRACTICES (E.G., WASH MY HAIR IN COLD WATER)?

Yes, they do: Customers see that we mostly offer regional soft drinks (which we explain on the menu) and frequently ask about it. So then we can tell them about all the other things we do and why we are doing it. And they really love it!
